Articular Cartilage Focal Lesion from Farming

This rendering depicts a human knee joint that is comprised of bone (beige), cartilage (silver), and menisci (white) that enables us to walk effortlessly without pain. Unfortunately, farming and other physically taxing activities can cause small holes within the cartilage, known as focal lesions, that if left untreated can develop into full blown osteoarthritis. This problem is very prevalent in older populations, military, blue collar workers, and athletes. There are very few treatment options for this issue and even less that fully regenerate the cartilage tissue.
